Next Friday, on the Tafira Campus, the date of approval of the Canary Islands University Reorganization Law will be commemorated, which marked the creation of the institution in Gran Canaria, and the beginning of its teaching activities in a completely autonomous manner.
The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) celebrates next Friday, April 26, the 35th Anniversary of its creation, under the motto ‘For you, with you’. That same day, in 1989, the Canary Islands Government approved the Canary Islands University Reorganization Law: a date that marked the creation of the ULPGC in Gran Canaria and the beginning of teaching activities in a completely autonomous manner, in the academic year 1989-1990.
The central event of this celebration will take place, starting at 12:00 p.m., in the open area of the parking lot of the School of Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering, on the Tafira Campus, with the presence of the main authorities of the island, including those that will include the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; and the Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias. Along with them, the main representatives of the university community will also attend, among them the President of the Social Council of the ULPGC, Ana Suárez; and the President of the Student Council, Miriam Jiménez.
Rector Lluís Serra will present the ULPGC Medals, recently approved by the Governing Council, to four people and two entities that played a key role in the creation of this academic center.
In addition, at the same event a special recognition will be made to the members of the Promotion Commission of the Law of Popular Initiative and University Reorganization of the Canary Islands.
After the 35th Anniversary Ceremony, the ULPGC organizes a University Party for students in the same open area of the parking lot of the School of Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering, on the Tafira Campus, with the presence of three popular DJs who will guarantee more than 5 hours of music and fun: Supersonikka, Alejo Sánchez and Ant Cosmos. In the same venue, free snacks and drinks will be offered for two hours (from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and there will be several food trucks where different food menus can be purchased during party hours.
