Preamble

The Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (FEET) has a long-standing tradition of educating and training professionals in the fields of economics, business and tourism. Its origins date back to Decree 2498/1971 of 17 September, under which the former Professional School of Commerce was granted the status of Experimental Centre in accordance with the 1970 General Education Act. Subsequently, these Professional Schools of Commerce were incorporated into the University of La Laguna under the name University School of Business Studies (BOE of 7 June 1972). In the 1976–1977 academic year, the second cycle of the Degree in Economics and Business Sciences, Business Sciences Section (fourth and fifth years), was introduced. This process was completed in the 1981–1982 academic year with the introduction of the first cycle of the degree. In 1989, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was established, together with its Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences, following the transformation of the Business Sciences Section into a Faculty.

In March 1995, the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences and the University School of Business Studies of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria were merged into a single centre, known as the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences (BOC of 13 March 1995). Subsequently, in August 2010, as a result of the adaptation of university studies to the European Higher Education Area, the Faculty adopted its current name: Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (BOC of 6 August 2010).

With approximately 2,000 enrolled students, 150 academic staff members and 30 members of management, administrative and service staff, FEET is the second-largest faculty at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). It currently offers three bachelor’s degrees—Business Administration and Management, Economics, and Tourism—four double degrees—Business Administration and Management and Tourism; Industrial Organisation Engineering and Business Administration and Management; English-German Translation and Interpreting and Tourism; and Business Administration and Management and Law—as well as three university master’s degrees—Marketing and International Trade, Business Management and Human Resources, and Tourism: Digitalisation, Innovation and Intelligence. All these programmes are accredited by the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and the Canary Islands Agency for University Quality and Educational Assessment (ACCUEE, formerly ACECAU).

In the field of research, the Faculty holds prominent positions in leading national and international tourism rankings. It is home to more than 150 researchers engaged in internationally recognised, high-quality scientific research, reflected in the annual publication of approximately 200 articles in high-impact academic journals. These researchers work within research institutes and academic departments. In addition, the Faculty hosts several university chairs managed in collaboration with external institutions and organisations, enabling further study, research and knowledge transfer across a range of fields.

The Faculty also stands out for its strong commitment to internationalisation. This commitment is reflected in the opportunity for students to complete part of their studies at numerous universities across Europe, the Americas and Asia, as well as the possibility of obtaining double degrees with European universities in countries such as England, Germany, France and Scotland.
