On 31 October, the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (FEET) welcomed Mr. Fernando Clavijo Batlle, President of the Government of the Canary Islands and an economist by training. During a session with third-year students from the Business Administration and Economics degrees, the President participated in an open dialogue, during which he spent almost an hour answering students’ questions.
The discussion addressed some of the main challenges and current debates in the Canary Islands’ economy: access to housing, the Gran Canaria railway project, employment opportunities for young people, the evolution of the tourism sector, and the strategic role of ports in the Archipelago, among other topics.
FEET is grateful to the President for his visit and for the closeness and openness he showed to our students. An encounter that undoubtedly helped bring economic policy and public decision-making closer to the university classroom.
