
Last Friday, 21 November, the Director General for Economic Promotion and Diversification of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mr. Manuel Alexis Oliva Hernández, officially opened and endorsed the launch of the “Silver Finance” course as part of the First Financial Education Conference. His unit promotes the initiative (through the Canary Islands Institute of Technology) in collaboration with the ULPGC, and it has attracted a high level of participation.
The course has been designed and is being delivered free of charge by lecturers from the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, attached to the ULPGC’s Department of Financial Economics and Accounting. The teaching team consists of Rosa María Cáceres Apolinario, Yaiza García Padrón, Manuela Hernández Sánchez, Lourdes Jordán Sales, Octavio Maroto Santana, and María Concepción Verona Martel.
This programme is aimed especially at people over 55 who wish to strengthen their financial literacy, make informed decisions, and plan their economic and financial futures with confidence. Through three independent yet complementary workshops, participants learn to manage their resources, protect their assets, and make the most of opportunities in the Silver Economy. The course includes:
• Workshop 1 (21/11/2025): Keys to the Silver Economy; Finances in Later Life
• Workshop 2 (28/11/2025): Your Money, Your Peace of Mind: Budgeting, Saving, and Expense Control
• Workshop 3 (05/12/2025): Confident Finances: Learning to Prevent Financial Risks
