INFORMATION SESSION ON THE HIGHER BODY OF STATE COMMERCIAL TECHNICIANS AND ECONOMISTS (TCEE)

On Thursday, April 24, Gracia Pujadas, an official of the Superior Corps of Commercial and Economic Technicians of the State (TCEE), representing the TCEE Association, held an online information session. She explained the Corps of Commercial and Economic Technicians of the State and the competitive admission examination.

During the talk, it was emphasized that the Corps is a benchmark in national and international economic, commercial, and financial policy characterized by its political independence and dedication to public service.

The attractiveness of the career opportunities was highlighted, given the variety and richness of career paths in the administration, the possibilities for developing a professional career abroad, and the ease of work-life balance. The multiple national professional assignments were also highlighted, both within public entities attached to the Ministry of Economy and within different ministries and entities such as AIReF. The speaker mentioned the option available to students at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FAA) to apply for one of the scholarships awarded to them by this organization.

The career opportunities offered by the Corps of Commercial and Economic Technicians of the State are not well known among university students, so the talk given by the Faculty was a fascinating tool for raising awareness of these career opportunities.

The talk addressed the role of commercial technicians within the General State Administration, the professional opportunities offered by the Corps, and the competitive examination phase. The target audience for the talk was final-year students of Economics and Business Administration and those with double degrees in Law and Business Administration/Economics.

However, given that the entry requirements for this Corps of Technicians require a high level of proficiency in two foreign languages, raising awareness of possible career opportunities from the earliest stages of the university is key for potential applicants. For this reason, the information session was also distributed to first-year students. Those interested in more information can find details of the different channels through which they can access it in the images below.
The Faculty thanked Gracia Pujadas for her talk and her willingness to contact students for more information.

Two Faculty Professors Among the Winners of the VI EL PENSADOR 2025 SHORT STORY AWARD

The VI El Pensador Short Story Award winners were announced on April 23rd. The Vice-Rector’s Office for Culture, Sports, and Society and the University Library organized the award.
The awards ceremony also took place at the School of Industrial and Civil Engineering as part of the activities commemorating International Book Day, organized by the University Library.

The winners include two members of our faculty lecturers: Inmaculada Galván Sánchez, Associate PhD Professor of the Department of Economics and Business Management, who won 2nd Prize for the story “The Last Day,” and Francisco López del Pino, Permanent Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Economic Analysis, who won 2nd Prize for the story “The Club.”

Professor Inmaculada Galván’s story focuses on the last day of work at the ULPGC for a retiring professor from the Physics Department. It takes place in a dystopian future, in the reality of a ULPGC that doesn’t seem so far away. The professor’s thoughts jump from the present to the past, recalling some crucial moments from his in-person classes and providing details of how those moments have lost value in the present with the transition from in-person to virtual courses. It is a story of longing and a tribute to all the faculty dedicated to teaching, especially to my father, a great physics professor with excellent teaching experience at the ULPGC.

Professor Francisco López’s story takes place during the summer. Just after receiving their final transcript of records, a group of friends gather at their club, in a makeshift cabin made of cardboard boxes under a fig tree near the river. There, they share their treasures and build their world with the logic and simplicity of childhood. “The Club” is a story about innocence and fragility, but also about the sadness of loss, portrayed through the eyes of a child.

We want to extend our sincere congratulations to both Inma Galván and Paco López for their creations.

News about the event is also published on the library’s website.

2025 MOST WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND INNOVATION AWARD

We echo the news published on the website of the University Institute of Tourism and Sustainable Development, according to which our colleague Rosa M. Batista-Canino, a researcher at the University Institute of Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development and a professor in the Faculty of Business Economics and Tourism, in the Department of Economics and Business Management, received recognition in Science and Innovation for her work promoting entrepreneurial talent and studying the entrepreneurial phenomenon in the Canary Islands at the 6th edition of the Más Mujer Awards held at the Leal Theater in La Laguna (Tenerife).

The 6th edition of the Más Mujer Awards – BPW Canarias has established itself as an emblematic event recognizing and celebrating female leadership in the archipelago. This edition recognized female talent in various fields of the arts, business, and culture in the Canary Islands. Professor Rosa Batista has been leading the GEM Canarias team for over 20 years, gathering data on regional entrepreneurial activity. Together with research projects on university entrepreneurship (GUESSS) and the business network of small and medium-sized enterprises (FAEDPYME), she has formed the basis of the Canary Islands Entrepreneurship and SME Observatory. TIDES researchers Alicia Bolívar Cruz, Pino Medina Brito, Silvia Sosa Cabrera, and Domingo Verano Tacoronte also belong to the Observatory.

As highlighted in the published news, in 2023, the professor was recognized by the European Parliament for her promotion of the EntreComp framework for entrepreneurial competencies. This precedent also served as the basis for this critical recognition—our sincere congratulations to Rosa.
