The Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has concluded the presentation of its master’s programs with the start of the Master’s Degree in Business Management and Human Resources (MUDERH).

On September 29, 2025, classes officially began for the new edition of the program, in a welcome session led by Professor Daniel Dorta, the program coordinator, who greeted the incoming 2025–2026 cohort.

During the opening, Professor Dorta emphasized the enthusiasm and commitment with which the team begins this new academic year, reaffirming the program’s dedication to providing high-quality training in business management and people management. He also expressed his gratitude to the students for their trust in the program and to the teaching staff for their dedication and ongoing support, along with the backing of the Faculty.

With this warm welcome, the MUDERH begins another academic year full of energy and ambition, consolidating its position as a leading program in the fields of business and human resources at the ULPGC.

Welcome to the 2025–2026 MUDERH cohort!

 

On Thursday, October 16, the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (FEET) successfully organized its first Employment Fair in collaboration with Easy Virtual Fair.

A total of 21 companies took part in the event, which was held in the Clasrrooms Faculty’s main hall, where various stands were set up and visited with great interest by students.

The day began at 10:00 a.m. with the official opening by the Dean of the Faculty, Mª Victoria Ruíz Mallorquí, and the Vice Dean of External Internships, Business Relations and Employability, Lourdes Jordán Sales. The fair ran until 5:00 p.m., attracting a large number of students and faculty members who took the opportunity to exchange information and establish professional connections.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Continuing Education and Employability, Soraya García Sánchez; the Director of Employability, Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Pérez; and the Director of Knowledge Transfer and Business Relations, Mª José Miranda Martel, who all expressed their satisfaction with the event’s Success.

The participating companies in this first edition were: RSM Spain, Dos por Dos, Team Galaga, BBVA, Ernst & Young, Garrigues Abogados, Mapfre, Cultural Care, Viajes Insular, Boluda Corporación Marítima, BDO Auditores, Cajasiete-Cajarural, Auren Auditores, Astilleros Canarios, Colegio Oficial de Economistas de Las Palmas, Banco de España, Job Trust, Satocan, Binter, PwC, and Barceló.

In addition, the University Foundation of Las Palmas (FULP) and the Knowledge Transfer Office of the ULPGC shared a stand, where they informed students about their key roles in employability and knowledge transfer.

The Faculty would like to express its sincere gratitude to all participating companies for their commitment and collaboration, as well as to the faculty members and especially the students for their enthusiastic participation — a fundamental part of the fair’s Success.

After this first experience, we are confident that there will be more editions in the future, and we encourage other companies to join this type of initiative that strengthens the connection between academia and the professional world.

Last Tuesday, the Lecture Hall of Module C at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (FEET) hosted a conference by Ancor Suárez Alemán, PhD in Economics with a specialization in Port Competitiveness and European Maritime Transport Policy, and author of more than 100 publications on
infrastructure investment, financing, and governance, as well as Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).

He currently serves as a Senior Specialist in PPPs at the Vice Presidency for Countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), based in Washington, D.C., where he leads support to 26 governments across Latin America and the Caribbean in strengthening institutional and regulatory
frameworks, planning and structuring projects, and promoting best practices in PPPs.

During his talk, Suárez Alemán shared his professional trajectory, highlighting the key role his education at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) played in it, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He emphasized that the solid theoretical and quantitative foundation gained at the Faculty equipped him with the tools needed to advance his career and discover his true vocation.

He also encouraged students to trust in the quality of their education and to continue their academic development “with confidence,” convinced that graduates of the program are well-prepared in economic theory and quantitative methods to face the challenges of the international job market.

The Faculty would like to thank Ancor for returning to share his experience and insights in a talk that will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration for current students and future graduates.

 

On October 9th, the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) Research Conference became an important platform for scholars, professionals, and thought leaders to address pressing issues in business ethics. This conference aims to explore the intersection of business ethics, innovation, and sustainability, fostering dialogue on how organizations can conduct business responsibly while ensuring ethical decision-making and long-term social well-being.

In the latest edition held in Cádiz (Spain), researchers Daniel Dorta-Afonso, Deybbi Cuéllar-Molina, and Claudia Benítez-Núñez, from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), were awarded the Best Paper Award for their work titled “Impact of Algorithmic Management on the OCB of Food Delivery Platform Workers.”

This recognition highlights the relevance of the research carried out by the Faculty’s scholars in the field of business ethics and management within digital platforms.
