The Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (FEET) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) held its traditional Orientation Day on 4 September, welcoming new students beginning their studies in the 2026/2027 academic year. Although classes officially started on 9 September, the event provided students with their first introduction to university life and the Faculty’s academic environment.
The event took place in the Assembly Hall of the building known as El Búnker and was led by the Dean of the Faculty, M.ª Victoria Ruíz Mallorquí, accompanied by the members of the Dean’s Team. During her presentation, she provided an overview of key information to help students navigate their first days at university, including the location of campus facilities, timetable organisation, and the main academic and coexistence regulations.
The Dean also highlighted the importance of making use of academic tutoring and becoming familiar with essential resources and tools, such as course guides, progression regulations, the institutional email account as the official communication channel, and the digital certificate required for administrative procedures through the University’s electronic headquarters.
The session also introduced several support initiatives designed to facilitate students’ transition to university life. These included the preparatory course Get Ready in Mathematics for Economics and Business, aimed at strengthening mathematical skills, and the Mentor Programme, through which senior students will guide and support first-year students during their initial months at the Faculty.
The Head of the Library, Ana Alegría Baquedano, also took part in the event, presenting the library’s services and resources and explaining the mandatory online course required for user registration.
In addition, the Student Delegation introduced its role as the representative body for students and encouraged newcomers to become actively involved in university life. The event concluded with a presentation by representatives of the ERUA Alliance, who outlined the international opportunities for learning, mobility and collaboration available through this European university network.
