Philip Morris International visits the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism in search of talent.

On April 10, Philip Morris International (PMI) visited the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism at ULPGC as part of its initiatives to enhance the employability of our students and graduates. The activity, organized by the Marketing area, brought together final-year students and graduates from different programs interested in learning first-hand about the professional opportunities offered by this international company.

During the session, the PMI team, led by Serena Prados, Human Resources Director, presented the company, its main strategic lines, its vision of a transformation towards a smoke-free future, and its strong commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The BOOST Program, a paid internship program whose next call will open in the coming weeks, was also introduced. This initiative offers graduates the opportunity to gain up to 12 months of initial professional experience in a multinational environment, with continuous training, rotations across different business areas, and opportunities for development and career progression.
The Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism would like to thank Philip Morris International for its interest in ULPGC talent and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening links between academia and the business sector, and to promoting initiatives that enhance the academic and professional development of its students and graduates.

Francisco López del Pino, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, has published the novel: Casos para lelos

After receiving one of the short story awards, “El Pensador”, from the ULPGC last summer, our colleague, Professor Francisco López del Pino, from the Department of Applied Economic Analysis, has just published a detective comedy novel distinguished by its innovative approach and pronounced sense of humor.

In addition to teaching at the Faculty, Paco dedicates part of his time to crafting stories that start from ordinary situations and spiral into complete chaos, filled with quirky characters and decisions as questionable as they are amusing—just like in his newly released novel, “Casos para lelos” (“Cases for Fools”), an absurd detective comedy in which the only sane character is the cat.

The book features two parallel storylines: on the one hand, a protagonist who finds herself caught in a series of chaotic events while trying to solve a mysterious case; on the other hand, a character who independently investigates an alleged international conspiracy. Both narratives, developed from very
different perspectives—intuition versus logic—ultimately converge into a single story.

The novel also offers an unconventional reading structure: readers can follow either the odd or even chapters independently, although a full understanding of the story requires combining both narrative threads.

The Faculty invites the university community to enjoy reading this work and congratulates the author on this achievement and his ingenious literary proposal.

Learning from Practice with Dr. Igor Stojanovic: How to Design Campaigns That Work.

On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria hosted a talk titled “How to Design Marketing Campaigns That Work” in its Assembly Hall. The guest speaker, Dr. Igor Stojanovic, is the Director of Digital Marketing at Grupo.
ICOT and holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Valencia.

The session took place as part of the Master’s Degree in Marketing and International Trade (specifically, the course Commercial Communication and Sales Management) and the Master’s Degree in Tourism: Digitalization, Innovation and Intelligence (specifically, the course Digital Communication).

During the session, Dr. Stojanovic shared his extensive professional experience and presented multiple real-world marketing case studies. He encouraged active student participation in tackling the challenges presented. His engaging and practical approach gave attendees direct insight into the processes and decision-making behind effective communication strategies.

Initiatives like this bridge the gap between the business world and the classroom, promoting applied learning and enhancing students’ professional skills.

The lecturers of both courses, Josefa D. Martín Santana and Lorena Robaina Calderín, extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Igor Stojanovic for his valuable contribution. They also thank the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism for its support in organizing, funding, and providing facilities that make such practical training opportunities possible for postgraduate students.
