17th Economics Olympiad 2026
Introduction
The Spanish Economics Olympiad is an educational initiative that emerged following the introduction of Economics and Business Economics subjects into the upper secondary school curriculum. Inspired by the spirit of traditional scientific olympiads, the project is distinguished by the fact that the Faculties of Economics and Business of Spanish public universities promote it and organize themselves into an association to support and develop it.
The Olympiad is structured in two phases: the Local Phase and the National Phase.
- The Local Phase is organized by each university, in which students in their final year of upper secondary education participate. These students are enrolled in the subject Business and Business Model Design and come from secondary schools within the university’s geographical area. Participants take an exam that may include problem-solving, multiple-choice, and essay questions, as well as text analysis related to economic and business topics. After this phase, each university selects the three best students.
- In the National Phase, the students selected by the different universities compete against each other. They take a new exam focused on economics and business economics. Finally, 10 students are selected in each Olympiad.
