Collect, process and transform organic waste derived from banana plantations – pseudostems, leaves, and remains of unsold fruit – into value-added products, such as compost, bioplastics, paper or even raw materials for the construction or cosmetics industry. This is the objective of the Green Banana Ecosolutions business project, developed by Guillermo González González, a final-year student of the Business Administration and Management (ADE) degree at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who has been one of the two winners, in the circular economy category, of the ULPGC’s Impulsa Talento 2024 Awards, an initiative promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Students, Alumni and Employability with the sponsorship of the DISA Foundation and Banco Santander and the collaboration of the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, which promotes innovation combined with sustainability among ULPGC students by promoting entrepreneurial initiatives and ideas related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

TITLE: Business Administration and Management students participate in the XXVI National Auditing Congress

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Spain, through the president of its Territorial Group of Las Palmas Javier Álvarez Cabrera, invited third and fourth year students of the Business Administration Degree and their corresponding Double Degrees, to the XXVI National Auditing Congress, which was held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria under the motto “Auditing in the era of Artificial Intelligence”.

During the day held on November 21, 2024, students had the opportunity to listen to professionals from the world of auditing discuss the implications of AI in the business world, as well as the possible professional opportunities they can find in the auditing sector. They also had the opportunity to talk to professionals who live the day-to-day life of the profession and participated in group dynamics (escape room and team race) that tested their ability to work as a team.

The positive impact that this experience has had on the students fills us with satisfaction:

This approach of the university to the business world has been possible thanks to the involvement of the professors Margarita Mesa and Sonia Granado, in charge of the organization of the students, and the collaboration of our colleague Aurora Rodríguez. Our thanks to our colleagues from the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism who teach third and fourth year GADE students for making it possible for students to attend the conference. Many thanks also to the ICJCE for awakening new professional interests among our students.
