Talk at FEET: The DESPIERTA Project Invites Reflection on Communication Across Generations

On Friday, October 3, a talk was held in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, delivered by Juan Ferrer and organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Students of the ULPGC through the Alumni and Mentoring Office. During the session, Ferrer presented the DESPIERTA Project, which he leads as a consultant and speaker specializing in leadership and change management.

In his professional experience, Ferrer observes a growing intergenerational disconnect that affects both human and business dynamics. According to the expert, it is essential to open a sincere dialogue among young people, families, educators, and companies to redefine paradigms and build new ways of relating based on understanding and mutual collaboration.

Young people, families, teachers, and businesses often feel disoriented by the gap between communication expectations and reality. After conducting a period of research and interviews with executives, families, educators, and young people, the project identified an urgent need to support these four key groups—first, by encouraging self-criticism, and second, by providing tools that help each group better fulfill their roles.

The research revealed the importance of creating spaces for dialogue and reflection that enable each group to understand its role in the communication process. In this context, DESPIERTA serves as a platform for dialogue and mutual learning, designed to “awaken awareness,” foster active listening, and
promote both personal and collective growth.

The initiative aims to drive real change through joint reflection on current and future challenges, promoting critical thinking, and defining actions that facilitate growth for all parties involved. It also aims to connect individuals committed to generating positive social impact and transforming
intergenerational communication.

The event was very well received by students—mainly from the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism—who actively participated and posed several questions to the speaker during the discussion.

The Faculty expresses its gratitude to Juan Ferrer, as well as to the Vice-Rectorate for Students and the Alumni and Mentoring Office, for this initiative, which is primarily aimed at welcoming and supporting new university students.
