XVI ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS OLYMPIAD
As a member of the Spanish Economics Olympiad Association, the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism of the ULPGC will participate in the Spanish Economics Olympiad, the fundamental objective of which is to stimulate economics and business studies among young people. Based on the Spanish Olympiad, we will conduct a first phase for 2nd-year Baccalaureate students from the province of Las Palmas.
Provincial Phase
Students from secondary schools who are enrolled during the 2023-2024 academic year in the subject “Business and Business Model Design” of the 2nd year of Baccalaureate in the province of Las Vegas will be able to participate in the XVI Olympiad on Economics and Business at the ULPGC. Palmas, it is recommended, given the nature of the test, that each center carry out a prior selection of the participating students.
The test will be taken on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism (Tafira University Campus) for students from the island of Gran Canaria. The students from the Fuerteventura and Lanzarote centers will take the test on their respective islands in the place determined. The registered students are already summoned for the tests without needing subsequent personal communication.
The contents of the test refer to the prioritized evaluation criteria of the subject “Business and Business Model Design,” which are included in the Matrix of Evaluation Criteria, Basic Knowledge and Indications established by the Subcommittee of said subject for the University Entrance Test, except criteria 3.2 and 3.4. The maximum time to complete the test will be 90 minutes, with a theoretical and practical part. It may contain economic or business news questions, multiple-choice questions, and numerical exercises. If necessary, a chart of accounts and ratios will be provided.
Registration will take place between March 4 and 10, 2024 (both inclusive) through the ULPGC Electronic Headquarters, entering the “Economics and Business Olympiad” procedure within the “Economics, Business and Business Students” folder. Tourism”. On March 12, the provisional list of those admitted and excluded will be published on the Faculty’s website with the appropriate reasons. Between March 13 and 15 (both inclusive), the teachers responsible for the centers may submit allegations to this provisional list, submitting the documentation through the ULPGC electronic headquarters. The final list of those admitted will be published on the website on March 18.
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism of the ULPGC chairs the organizing committee of the provincial phase. It will evaluate the tests, qualify the exercises, classify the participants in order, and determine the three finalists who will participate in the national phase. The finalists’ names will be announced on the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism website in April.
National and International Phases
From June 19 to 21, the XV Spanish Economics Olympiad will be held in Logroño at the Faculty of Business Sciences of the University of La Rioja, attended by the three finalists from each participating university. The finalists of the Spanish Economics Olympiad will represent the Spanish Economics Olympiad Association in the International Economics Olympiad.
